Before we can know, we must be still.

10 “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”

Psalm 46:10

Be still.

That word is slowly but surely being squeezed from our lives.

Like an orange being pressed for it’s juice, so our souls are being pressed of all their peace.

Be still the psalm says.
When was the last moment of stillness you had?

Stillness.

Stillness is not thought highly of these days.

Stillness doesn’t post.
Stillness doesn’t make money.
Stillness doesn’t make friends.
Stillness doesn’t take sides.
Stillness won’t get you that possession or fame.

In the world today, stillness is weakness.
Stillness is frowned upon.

And yet, the Spirit of. God says…be still.

Today we define stillness as an absence of motion or energy.
Stillness is something missing, something idle.
Stillness being something that is not.

But to me, this is a very shallow look at the word. If stillness is a common weakness shared by our world, then it must be the strength of another.

Stillness isn’t just a practice in which we take time to plan our next move. Stillness must be something much more rich, much more important than that.

The goal of stillness is not to prepare for motion, it’s to begin to know.

10 “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”

Psalm 46:10

We have so many questions.
We have so many doubts.
We have so many fears.
And we know not what about.

For those of decide to walk this journey, there is much reward ahead. When we choose to be still before the Lord, we choose to begin to know Him intimately.

Be still, and know

When was the last time you chose to be still before the Lord?

I think of Job. In all his pain and sorrow, before God shows him that bigger story God says be still.

Listen to this, O Job: stand still, and consider the wondrous works of God.

Job 37:14

Before we can know, we must be still.

Turn it all off.
Close it all up.
Even if just for a moment.

The work.
The busyness.
The fear.
The question.

Even if just for 1 minute.

Be still and know the Lord.

Remember to whom you belong.
Remember that He cares for you.
Remember what He has already done.
Remember that He promises to be with you.

He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.

Mark 4:39

Remember that when Jesus says be still, for those that listen experience Him.

Even the waves.
Even the storm.

Do not let today go by, without taking a moment of stillness in the presence of God. Let God orchestrate a moment with you. Ask Him to meet you there.

Don’t give up on it.

Stillness isn’t always easy.
Stillness is a battle.
Stillness is an acknowledgement of chaos.

But on the other side of it is knowing.

Pursue stillness today.

5 minutes.
1 minute.

Be still.

Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him.
