Home Stories: Healing in our Homes

My church, Hillside Christian Church, is going to be launching into a 3 day fast from May 4th-6th. You can check out some of what we will be doing by clicking here.
I took some time to write about some works of Jesus that happened inside of people’s homes because I wanted to be reminded of the reality that God is at work everywhere, even now.

Here’s one of those stories.

In Matthew 8:5-13, Jesus had just healed a centurion’s servant simply by saying a word and after that miraculous feet makes His way into the home of Peter. There Jesus found Peter’s Mother-in-law lying there sick. The Bible doesn’t say whether or not Jesus was brought there to heal her or not, but Jesus moves regardless.

Matthew 8:14-15

14 And when Jesus entered Peter’s HOUSE, he saw his mother-in-law lying sick with a fever. 15 He touched her hand, and the fever left her, and she rose and began to serve him.

Simply put, it’s always a good idea to invite Jesus over. Isn’t it? Have we invited Jesus into our homes? Into our normal? The disciples lead Jesus to Peter and Andrew’s house and Jesus reaches out and touches the sick and heals her.

There wasn’t anything special about Peter’s house, it’s just a place to live. And guess what? There’s nothing too special about the places we live either. But anytime Jesus shows up, well now everything changes. What once was normal becomes extraordinary, because wherever the Spirit of God treads is Holy ground.

Jesus wants to heal us. Our pains and sickness. Our broken and thoughts and perspectives. He wants to heal our self-inflicted wounds and the damage others have done. Jesus wants to heal you, and even He said that He stands at the door and knocks. Let Him in.

Today, invite Jesus into your home. Spend some time in prayer throughout your home. Pray God would heal broken things and broken areas in your family. Jesus wants to heal you and the broken parts of your home.

Through the power of Jesus, your HOME can become a place of healing.
